How It Started

The Little Prince

The Little Prince - Based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's masterpiece - designed and directed by Mostafa Ghorbanpour went on stage in Los Angeles (Nocturne Theater) on the 8th of September of 2024. The play was very warmly welcome by the audience, hence we decided to take the play on tour in Canada.

The Story

The narrator, an airplane pilot, crashes in the Sahara desert. The crash badly damages his airplane and leaves the narrator with very little food and water. As he is worrying over his predicament, he is approached by The Little Prince, a very strange being who asks the narrator to draw him a sheep. The narrator obliges, and the two become friends.

The Little Prince tells the pilot of his love for the flower Rose, and his travels to other planets. He comes to meet very different and interesting characters (whom in fact are all in his within) on his journey to the planet Earth. And finally after meeting The Fox he returns to his own planet.

This is the story of self discovery; Rose is the symbol of the light within, while each planet defines different attributes in us all.

The Technique

The director has chosen the spacing method for this play, and a combination of storytelling, puppetry and narration.

The Little Prince is the main role while the Pilot acts as the narrator of the story. Six other characters are being played by one actor, whom acts as a puppet who lives within the Pilot. The roles of Flower, and the Fox (love) are being portrayed by a dancer.

The play features modern dance, pre-produced and recorded musical tracks, as well as live music. Staging and costume design play vital roles in this show.

Long rehearsals, performing complicated characters, and a very specific rhythm of play are some of the highlights of this show.

Actors

Mostafa Ghorbanpour plays The Pilot.

Darya Falaki is our Little Prince.

Shahrad Fredotti is playing six characters back to back; The King, The Selfish, The Drunkard, The Lamplighter, The Businessman, and The Astronomer.

A contemporary dancer plays the roles of The Rose, and The Fox.

The Music

The story of The Rose and The Little Prince is told by a 9 minute track. The idea behind using musical tracks accompanied by dialogues was to give the gentle, caring and romantic feeling that this scene carries. The mixture of music and the interaction of The Little Prince with both The Rose, and The Fox invites the audience to feel and absorb the scene fully.

The second track used in the play tells the story of The Fox and our Little Prince. This 10 minute track allows the dancer to showcase a wide range of emotions using modern and contemporary movements. Both tracks are composed and produced by Farshad Fozouni, featuring Hadi Sabet on Saxophone, with vocals of Rojan Ghasemloei, and Farshad himself.
